Back from the House of Illusion

June 17th, 2007 by Rob James - Magician

A couple of posts ago I mentioned that I was recently in Spain performing at the House of Illuson which is a small venue dedicated to magic. I was over as a guest performer along with two other magic luminaries from the UK. The place is owned by my friend Rodney who is a magician, mindreader, hypno guy and all round entertainment mogul. For such a small place they put on an amazing magic show including some classic illusions. They make people appear, levitate and disappear and there are some great comedy performers and mind readers in the show with close up magicians circulating beforehand. If you go to the early performance you also get fed! It was great to see the place packed out most nights, with punters eager to see magic. There aren’t really any venues like this in the UK - the Magic Circle in London sometimes puts on public performances but not that frequently. The show runs twice nightly until October so if you are in the area you should definitely check it out.

[…] When I started this blog I was hoping to write interesting stuff about the more unusual bookings that I do as a close-up magician eg. filming things for TV or my trip to the House of Illusion in Spain - that kind of thing. But, it’s summer which mainly means weddings, weddings, and err, some more weddings. August is not too popular a month for corporate events, probably because people take holiday I guess (I am not sure, I am kind of out of touch with the world of real work). This weekend I was at the very charming Parsonage Hotel in York and also the rather grand Latimer House in Buckinghamshire. I haven’t been to either venue before but at both weddings I was mixing with people performing close up magic outside to the sounds of a string quartet playing in the background. I do actually have some other types of bookings coming up including something for the RAF next week so will be able to keep my regular readership up to date - (well, Alan and Dave but I think it probably sounds more impressive if I refer to them as my readership).
