Magic at the Ministry

July 27th, 2007 by Rob James - Magician

Ministry of SoundI was never really much of a clubber. In the town I grew up the local nitespot was called Reflections and they had monthly foam parties and maybe on very special occasions a P.A. from Ross Kemp. Last night however, I found myself at the legendary Ministry of Sound in London. No, I wasn’t there to “drop” an “E” (I think that’s what the young people say) and throw shapes on the dancefloor until 7am but instead to perform at a very lavish 50th birthday party. With one of the rooms turned into a dining area it made quite an unexpectedly good venue for a dinner function.
The gig came courtesy of my friend Chris James (no relation) who I know mainly as a hypnotist and mindreader. He does some close-up magic too and we were both there to do just that. The organisers had gone all out on the entertainment - apart from us two they had the excellent ventriloquist Paul Zerdin and Anne Robinson doing the Weakest Link live on stage. If I had less shame I might have tried to get a picture of me and Anne Robinson side by side for this site to prove that a) I didn’t just make the story up and b) to make it look like I always work at events with celebrities at them. But, I am far too cool for that. Or at least, that’s what I like to tell myself.
