Things I’ve been doing lately
Sorry for the unimaginative title but I am writing this post mainly because I haven’t written one for ages and I don’t want people thinking I have retired or anything. Actually, things have been pretty busy. I have been working alongside a lot of my friends all over the country, which has made the travelling a bit more fun. Recently I was in London working on a boat on the Thames (alongside the excellent magician Pete Wardell) doing magic for around about 200 people. The boat set off at 6.15pm and at about 6.38pm there was an announcement that we had reached our destination. Usually for 200 people about 2-3 hours would be the right amount of time so in 23 minutes I think we barely scratched the surface. Oh well! It’s what the client asked for and they seemed happy and I got paid so those are the main things I guess.
It’s always interesting - to me mainly - when I go to a city in this country where I haven’t been before. Last week I was in Hartlepool for the first time, working at a local business dinner alongside Alan Hudson and the very funny John Archer. John got me the gig so thanks fella! John was doing an after-dinner spot and me and Alan were there to perform table magic. I think there were about 400 people there.
Apart from that, a few other interesting jobs off the top of my head included a very nice pleasant wedding at The Bleeding Heart in London as well as a wedding last weekend at Anstey Hall in Cambridge which was noteable for having a May Ball theme complete with a band on the lawn, a bucking bronco, a room where they were serving assorted pancakes and me mixing with people doing the magic thing. Lots of other jobs to mention (this will teach me to update this quarterly!!) - almost forgot a huge thing for Thomas Cook at Butlins in Skegness - hundreds of travel agents. I am not sure what I expected before I got there but nothing prepared me for 500 20something women dancing on their chairs before even the meal had been served. Turned out to be a fun job in the end. I was working with Alan again and also Charles Burns who often seems to make an appearance on this blog but, and this is just a guess, not often at Butlins.
